The current situation in the Red Sea remains uncertain with almost all Commercial shipping taking the decision to continue Steaming around the Cape Of Good Hope. The threat of terrorist attacks remains very high despite Naval Intervention. The UN Security Council met last week and secured commitment from at least 20 nations to assist in defending these waters.
We remain hopeful therefore that this will be brought under control swiftly and thus be a relatively short-lived situation. In the interim nonetheless, this means Carriers having to adjust rates to compensate for increased costs. Operationally the last couple of weeks have seen some carriers also applying retrospective surcharges for cargo that is on the water but vessels now having to re- route. Unfortunately, this is affecting shipments both inbound and outbound and obviously we are currently working hard to keep you advised on this.
Please also note with severely disrupted carrier operations and Sailing Schedules, our response times may take longer than usual. We appreciate your kind understanding with all our operational staff. Also, please note the extended Transit times given the additional 10 – 14 days this route adds to those markets affected.
If you need any further information or have specific enquiries regarding this, please contact your local Carry Cargo Account Manager for details who will be happy to assist you.
